The Importance of Domain Registration Length

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Here is a little helpful information about registering a domain that a lot of people are unaware of including me untill a few weeks ago.

The length of time that you register your domain name for can have an affect on your search engine placement.

Some of the top search engines like Google and Yahoo consider the length of time your domain is registered as one of many determining factors that will decide where to place your site in their index.

Why is this relevant?
If a search engine see’s that your domain was only registered for one or two years it will have reason to believe that you are not as serious about holding on to that domain. Also they see one or two year domains as more likely to expire due to many of the names being bought just so no one else can buy it or simply to park the domain for future use or to make money with a parking service. These factors will have a negative impact on determining placement of your site in the se’s.

They will give domains with five and ten year registration periods much more relevance when considering where to index the domain. They figure sites with five and ten year domains are going to stick around and are in it for the long haul. Sites with longer registration periods are much more likely to be stable companies that are going to extend their registrations for as long as possible and not let them expire.

This is definitely something to consider when registering your domain. If you are planning to build a site and put a lot into se optimization, I would recommend a 5 or 10 year registration. Yes it cost more money but that money will be replaced with higher results in the se’s meaning more traffic to your site in the long run.

Expiring Domains with Traffic

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

I have a great source for expiring domains with traffic that I am going to make available for all of my readers. Every 3 days I will be listing the top ten expiring domains according to traffic here at my blog.

This expiring domains list will contain only domains that will come back on the market within 3 days. They will be ranked overall using the following attributes: Alexa Ranks, Google PageRank, Backlinks, DMOZ and Yahoo Directory.

These will be the top expiring domains on the market with the most amount of traffic. A great opportunity to grab them and make some extra cash. Domains are the real estate of the future so better take advantage while you can.

Most of the domains will be auctioned off at snapnames so if you don’t have an account get one here. You will be able to land any of these expiring domains for as low as $60. Quite a deal considering many of them are listed in DMOZ and Yahoo directories. That in itself makes them worth more than $60. Many have hundreds and sometimes thousands of backlinks as well.

Cheap Domain Names

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Just wanted to kick this blog off with my favorite place to buy cheap domain names. I recently opened an account with Godaddy and have been very pleased with the service, price and customer support. I was so happy with the service that I transfered all of my domains there.

Domains are only $8.95 by themselves and only $1.99 if you purchase a domain along with any of their other services. I went crazy and bought a ton of new domains and a membership to TDNAM (The Domain Name After Market). So far the experience has been top notch along with the customer service. I accidently overpurchased an email acct and some backorders and they refunded my money with no questions asked.

If you haven’t heard of TDNAM, it is a place to buy and sell expiring domain names. This is a whole other topic in itself that we will revisit very soon.

All in all Godaddy rocks and their prices are very affordable. They also offer discounts when you buy larger quantities of products. If you are in the market for cheap domain names, Godaddy is the place to be. I have used many companies over the past ten years and no one has come close.
